Counselling and Psychotherapy in Edinurgh

Most of the clients I see are feeling anxious or low and I offer one-to-one sessions to work through these issues.

Like coaching the work is goal orientated.   Most people come to therapy wanting to stop....stop feeling so miserable, stop waking up in the middle of the night with their heart pounding, stop feeling like nothing is ever going to get better.  My preference is to work from a more positive place and to focus on what changes or decisions can be made to improve how you are feeling.  Sometimes the work is slow, sometimes it’s fast.

counselling coaching pschotherapy couples central edinburghLatest statistics show that 1 in 4 people are affected by mental health issues during their lives.  At one level there is comfort in knowing that you are not the only one, at another there is a resistance to being in that group.  I recognise both sides and prefer to work with you as an individual, not a statistic or as a labelled item. The key is working together.  I bring therapeutic skills, you bring yourself and a desire to change. Together we commit to working in a mutual and respectful way.

By respectful I mean that I will listen to you, really listen. I won’t judge and I won’t solutionise. I will provide a safe, empathic and confidential space for the work. I will also challenge and provide a reality check or mirror for you to look into. This work can evoke a range of emotions which is normal and needed.  It can also offer hope.

I like to work in conjunction with your doctor when you are on, or feel you would benefit from medication.  It is important that the different approaches are complementary and supportive to your health and wellbeing.  All contact with your GP will have your involvement and prior agreement.
